The Pocahontas Trailhead of the Hatfield/Mccoy Trail system is 3.5 miles away. Some people ride their atv’s up route 52 to get there but we do not recomment it! Rt 52 is a heavily traveled road. There is a “back way” by traveling on state rt 71N that is about 2.1 miles and much safer if you prefer not to trailer to the trailhead.

Full service restaurant and bar (open for dinner Thursday, Friday and Saturday 4-10 pm (SUMMER) and 4-9 (WINTER).
Featuring:

  • 85 seat indoor “lodge style” dining room and bar

  • Weekend menu specials prepared by our executive chef
  • In-cabin room service (Outdoor grills and fire pits located through out the property)
  • Picnic tables, rockers and benches located through out the property

The most fun ever! Great RV sites (need extra water hoses and sewer line…hook up’s at the back of the site not the side). The owners treat you like family! Restaurant on site, 2 full service bars on site. Will serve you for as long as you want to drink. All staff are spectacular…friendly, and pure southern hospitality. Food is fabulous…never did cook dinner – why bother – when the food is so delicious. Owner, SETH is all about attention to detail and puts class in all he builds. This place is the tops!

We stayed in a RV site for about a month as we were finishing up a cabin that we were building. First for the bad. The sites are really small with just a small grass strip between the sites that flooded out when it rained and it rained a lot when we were there. It was really a mess with the clay and no drainage. The sites were set up wrong as all of the hookups are at the back of the site so make sure you bring plenty of sewer hose to reach the connection. They should have put them on the side like most campgrounds. That is my only bad complaint. Now for the good. Wi-fi was great, Seth the owner and all the employees we came in contact with were outstanding and couldn’t do enough for you. The food and beer are good and the cabins look really nice even though we didn’t stay in one. For those that go 4 wheeling, this place can’t be beat. I would have given it a 5 rating if it wasn’t for the RV problems as noted.

This is by far our favorite place to camp for trail riding. It is truly amazing how the owner, Seth makes you feel as if you have been longtime friends. The entire staff feels like family. Seth has overseen every detail of the business to ensure it is done right with the customer being the top priority. Our group has always done our own cooking but not here. The onsite restaurant serves fantastic food and the service is outstanding. I can’t even specify a favorite because everything is so delicious. We got in past serving time 1 night and guess what… they served us dinner anyway. You have to visit to believe it. They also serve a great selection of beer and wine and any mixed drink you could desire. Please check it out. If you live in an hour’s drive, the restaurant and bar alone are reason enough to visit. This is Top Notch!!!

Just got back home after spending 10 nights at Buffalo Trail in our motor home. The sites are great. Level, plenty long for your coach and your trailer or towed vehicle. We had both! Hook ups are at the rear of the site so be sure to bring extra sewer hoses! Bo helped us get set up and checked in and since they had an open site next to ours, allowed us to store our ATV trailer on it. He even had two guys push it into place for us once we had unloaded our ATVs! Can’t ask for better customer service than that! Everyone we met who were staff were very helpful and friendly. We didn’t eat from the restaurant since we had brought food to cook on the grill while there, but it sure smelled good being prepared. Even though the RV sites are right across from the restaurant/brewery, it was still fairly quiet on the evenings they were open. All in all this is a very good campground with reasonable rates, friendly folks and I can’t think of any reason not to return! We certainly enjoyed our stay and will be going back.

We had a great time here and were treated very well by the owner and staff. We were disappointed that the restaurant & bar were not open until Thursday evening (we stayed Monday-Thursday) however, quite impressed that the owner opened during the NCAA men’s basketball championship game. The parking lot gets a little tight with larger RV’s and trailers when busy. The service and amenities are top notch. If you don’t mind driving a few miles up the road with your atv or trailering to the trailhead than this place will not disappoint.

Just returned from staying at Buffalo Trail. Place is fantastic, not what you would expect for a campground that caters primarily to ATV riders. Owners Seth and Jenny went out of their way to be friendly and courteous. Bo and the rest of the staff were helpful and quick to assist if needed. Restaurant is first class in all respects. I have been staying at various places on the Hatfield McCoy trails for the last ten years. This one is by far the best. Only one minor complaint as stated in previous reviews, RV spaces are a little tight. As a former resident of adjacent McDowell County in WV, it is great to see places like this in an area sorely needing new industries!

Great place, spaces are a little tight of everyone has slide outs but people are great and the restaurant is very convenient after a long day or trail riding. Everyone was very helpful upon arrival. The best atv campground I have ever experienced and will definitely return again.
